Paddy Straw (Volvariella volvacea)

Paddy Straw (Volvariella volvacea) is a mushroom that fruits only above 80F. This species is widely cultivated in Asia on rice straw. This culture will die under refrigeration or if temperatures drop below 55F should NOT be ordered during winter months but perfect for growing in the summer heat. 


Substrate: Composted straw( preferably rice), cotton waste, hardwood sawdusts. Wheat straw also supports fruitings, although not nearly as well as supplemented, composted rice straw. Best supplement for wheat straw is wheat bran (5%) and or cotton hulls (10%). The pH optimum for fruiting falls between 7.5 - 8.0

Colonizing/Fruiting Temps:75-85F/80-110F
